Real Ale

Real Ale

The Halfway House offers a choice of 4 cask ales at all times ( unless one is in the process of being washed and changed..! ). The choice of Ales varies constantly, as

one cask finishes it is replaced with another ( but never the same…).Lying in the heart of Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh, the emphasis is always on Scottish Ale…..supplied by a wide range of (mainly) microbreweries from all parts of the country – from the Borders to Orkney and from Skye to Stonehaven…..From time to time the selection is complemented by the odd brew from south of the border – usually the North East. However part of the enjoyment of the Pub is never quite knowing what you’re going to find on‘the pumps’ on any one visit..!

One of the pumps is always reserved for a dark ale and we always aim to have at least one ‘session ale’ available, in case you’re planning a longer stay….or it turns into one….!

The Halfway House showcases various Breweries throughout the year….when for a week –end we concentrate on ales from one particular brewery. Stewarts of Edinburgh always features during the Festival in August and recently we have showcased Orkney/Atlas Brewery and the incomparable An Teallach Brewery from Dundonnel, near Ullapool.

Members of CAMRA are always afforded a 20p pint discount on displaying their membership card…and yes, that’s on every pint…..

What’s on today..? You’ll just have to pop in and find out or you can always give us a ring…..but it could be gone if you’re long…! The ‘coming soon’ section on the bar, informs patrons which beers are next up…assuming the member of staff has remembered this vital part of their duties….( if not please feel free to remind them…..)…!

The Halfway House is always eager to provide an outlet for enterprising new brewers of quality ale. If you are a brewer or know of a brewer supplying into Edinburgh, who has not been tried at the Halfway House, do please get in touch.
